IT'S "AN OUTRIGHT LIE” – GREG MACABENTA: NaFFAA Chair Denies Federation Received More than a Quarter-Million Dollars
By ROMEO P. MARQUEZ

"That is an outright lie," said Greg Macabenta, NaFFAA chair, who owns two publications and an advertising agency, Minority Media Services Inc., based in
He demanded that this reporter and Los Angeles-based journalist Bobby Reyes produce proof that his company had received for the NaFFAA a total of $300,000 from the bank.
Macabenta's denial and demand were coursed through a NaFFAA Midwest regional chair, Ed Navarra, who then forwarded it to this writer. It wasn't clear why Macabenta had to ask Navarra to do his bidding for him instead of going directly to the Philippine Village Voice and Reyes.
Reyes, a strong critic of NaFFAA in the last 10 years at least, has published in his top-rated MabuhayRadio.com several articles documenting what appear to be questionable transactions involving the NaFFAA and some of its top national officials.
According to him: "The NaFFAA used to receive donations in the hundreds of thousands of dollars from major foundations such as the Bank of America (BA) and Wells Fargo Bank (WFB) but hints of financial impropriety ended the grants".
"For instance, the Wells Fargo Foundation gave the NaFFAA $300,000 in 2002. The grant was secured by Greg Macabenta, then a NaFFAA national executive officer, whose company, the Minority Media, was paid commissions that were not reflected in the NaFFAA financial statement for 2002," Reyes claimed.
It was this assertion by Reyes, embedded in one of his many stories posted in his website that Macabenta is now denying. # # # E ditor’s Note: Bobby Reyes e-mailed Mr. Macabenta and pointed to him the article that reported the $300,000 grant from the Wells Fargo Bank that Mr. Macabenta obtained for the NaFFAA in 2002. Subject: OUTRIGHT LIE BY BOBBY REYES
Joy and Ernie(s),
Below is an outright lie being spread by your friend Bobby Reyes, whom at one time you (Joy) described as a paragon of truth. I don't know where he got this canard that my company received $300,000 and got commissions. You should check with Wells Fargo and find out.
What are you going to do about it Joy? Should I keep my peace or will you tell him off? Ernie - remember what I said about showing proof? Can you please demand this from Bobby Reyes?
Thanks.
Greg Macabenta
National Chair, NaFFAA
AS QUOTED BY ROMEO MARQUEZ, ANOTHER SCANDAL MONGER MASQUERADING AS A JOURNALIST.

Hallelujah! Finally, you have spoken and once again you are caught lying by your own words. You should have resorted to the Fifth Amendment.
1.0 RE: $300,000 Grant from Wells Fargo Bank in 2002. I reproduced simply the IRS Form 990 that the NaFFAA submitted for the calendar year that ended on Dec. 31, 2002 (2-0-0-2). You forgot all about it and I can understand because aging folks do experience senior moments. BTW the same report was first published in 2003 in the www.pinoyonboard.com of New York.
QUOTE: Here are my initial findings about the NaFFAA's financial report for the year ended Dec. 31, 2002, as reported to the IRS by submitting Form 990:
NaFFAA's IRS Form 990 declared a gross income of $445,783. UNQUOTE.

1.1 Now, if cannot explain how your company got for the NaFFAA the grant from the Wells Fargo Bank in 2002 and explain further why you charged commissions, finder's fees and other charges for facilitating the donations, I wish to suggest respectfully that you please tender your resignation. The supreme leader of the NaFFAA cannot be effective if he is under a cloud of suspicion.
2.0 NOW Is the Time to Discuss What Went Wrong with the NaFFAA's Treasury.
2.1 Perhaps the good men and women of the NaFFAA must NOW address FINALLY how and why the NaFFAA Treasury tolerated financial scams like the Menorgate and why it is still refusing to release the Profit-and-Loss Statements for all the NaFFAA national conventions and its Global Networking conferences.
2.2 The NaFFAA regional leaders must finally deal with the issue of why then NaFFAA Treasurer Klaus Buntua resigned in 2001. Everybody knows the reason why Mr. Buntua resigned. While he was the elected treasurer, it was actually Assistant Treasurer Luly Esclamado who kept possession of the NaFFAA check books and then Chairman Alex Esclamado was issuing checks based on his sole signature. Mr. Buntua refused to be a mere decor (like a flower vase on a table) and he wanted also not to be part of a financial scandal.
2.2 The NaFFAA kept several bank accounts with the Wells Fargo Bank in Las Vegas and NaFFAA regional officer Rozita Lee was also issuing checks from it on her own signature alone (no countersignatory required in violation of the NaFFAA Bylaws).
For the record,
Lolo Bobby M. Reyes
