C HICAGO (jGLi) – Three people, two of them believed to be Filipino Americans, were shot and killed in a parking garage of the San Jose State University in Northern California Tuesday (May 10) night, according to officials of the university.

The victims were identified as Marcory Tarlit Caliguiran, 25, student; her husband, Napoleon Lavarias Caliguiran, 54, a non-student, and her classmate, Thomas Kyle Williams, 26.

Pat Lopes Harris, spokesperson of the university, said Marcory Caliguiran and Thomas Kyle Williams were honor students, who were about to graduate in accounting degrees from San Jose State University.

It was reported that Marcory Caliguiran and Thomas Williams were sitting inside the car at about 8:37 p.m. when Napoleon Caliguiran fired several shots from outside the car owned by Caliguiran couple.

Then, Caliguiran turned the gun on himself, according to the police.

Two of the victims were dead on the spot while the third victim was rushed to the Santa Clara County Valley Medical Center, where the victim was declared dead.

It was approximately 8:37 p.m. when the San Jose State University Police Department and the San Jose Police Department received reports of gunshots being fired on the fifth floor of the 10th Street Parking Garage.

When the SJSUPD and the SJPD officers arrived on the location of the shooting incident, they discovered three people with gunshot wounds.

S ince it did not appear to be a random shooting nor gang-related, police are treating the incident as a murder-suicide.

The handgun used in the incident was recovered at the scene and there are no outstanding suspects.

Witnesses are being urged to contact the San Jose State University Police Department Investigations Unit at 408-924-2168 as they continue to determine the motive behind the shooting.

They are also investigating it as a domestic-violence incident.

Marcory Caliguiran, known as “Cindy,” might have given Williams a ride home, according to professor and faculty adviser of an honors organization that included Cindy and Thomas “Kyle” Williams.

It was reported that there were no romantic involvement between the two as Williams was a devoted to his wife, Katie.

When Cindy did not show up for class Wednesday, classmates were alarmed that something went wrong. They were devastated to learn Thursday that Cindy was one of the victims in Tuesday’s shooting incident.

Harris said, “There is a great feeling of sadness” when she made the announcement of the identities of the victims.

She said school officials are working closely with family members, including those of Marcory Caliguiran in the Philippines. # # #
