C onsul General Pedro Chan practically scolded the Philippine Independence Day Council (PIDC) for imposing a waiver on journalists wanting to cover its event. "We should give media freedom it deserves," he says in an interview with this reporter.

Journalist Joseph Lariosa of Chicago has suggested that the PIDC drop "Philippine independence" in its name because it works against freedom.
