After the opponents of Sen. Barack Obama mocked his foreign-policy experience, the www.mabuhayradio.com has decided to take up the cudgels for the Illinois senator and do David Letterman a favor. Because of the Writers’ Guild of America strike, Mr. Letterman would not be able to explain in his “now-canned” show the top 10 reasons why Senator Obama is a foreign-relations expert. So, here goes . . .

10.  He is a member of the United States Senate’s Foreign-Relations Committee for the past three years and counting.

9. He studied Foreign Relations as a subject for four years in an elementary school in Indonesia.

8. His Filipino-American supporters claim that he was named partly after the Coffea Liberica variety of coffee in the Philippines known locally as “Kapeng Barako.” (Editor’s Note: If you do not know anything about this Filipino coffee, please read The True Story Behind that "Cup of Kapeng Barako".)

7. He is an expert in European affairs, as his favorite vegetable is arugula (species Eruca vesicaria sativa), Mediterranean annual herb, of the mustard family (Brassicaceae), which he uses as a tool in educating the farmers in Iowa of European-American relations, especially in the matter of farm subsidy.

6. According to his Filipino-American supporters (again), he allegedly befriended the then First Lady of the Philippines, Imelda Marcos, and helped her count her 3,000 pairs of designer shoes.

5. He is familiar with the military establishment of Muslim countries, having the necessary experience as the captain of his elementary debating team in Indonesia.

4. He reads the Foreign-News Section of the Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post and New York Times.

3. Sen. Teddy Kennedy is his main tutor in foreign relations and in crossing bridges to foreign countries and not only to Chappaquiddick Island.

2. He wants Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro to be his pen pals and invite himself once he becomes the President to visit Caracas and Havana, so that he could play ball with them.

1.   He is an expert in Middle-Eastern affairs, having visited Iraq and its neighboring countries where he found out that sipping Coffea Arabica is much better than drinking Coffea Liberica. # # #
