T his writer, Goliath Letterman, lists down the top-ten reasons why probably God made Philippine President Gloria M. Arroyo a midget, most especially as a prop or costume for Halloween:

* 10. To remind humanity that life often comes in small bundles of joy or sadness, although in reality, existence is more of sorrow and injustice and persecution, ad infinitum.

* 9. To tell again his people that God is just and loving that he did not make Mrs. Arroyo the Filipino version of the six-footer and massively-built despot Idi Amin Dada of Uganda, otherwise the damage to the Filipino homeland would have been more disastrous.

* 8. To use Mrs. Arroyo, as a human being, the personification of the Italian motto “il piccolo é bello” (small is beautiful). And use further Mrs. Arroyo as another living proof why Filipinos are the Italians of Asia. Because like Italy, the Philippines is a country of saints and sinners and the Mafia.

* 7. To prove once more that even a physically-small person can be a colossal figure like the diminutive Dr. Jose P. Rizal or Gen. Carlos P. Romulo, both of whom were literary giants.

* 6. To make it more convenient for Mrs. Arroyo to meet with Dr. Rizal and/or General Romulo in the after life, as they will be seeing each other eye-to-eye (by not stooping down or looking up at the other).

* 5. To prevent bloodshed in case of another people-powered revolution, Mrs. Arroyo’s security people can easily smuggle her out of a besieged presidential palace in a small suitcase.

* 4. To remind people that mortals like Mrs. Arroyo are but small dots in the universe of life and the ever-expanding millions of galaxies and black holes; and that the billions of dollars allegedly stolen by Mrs. Arroyo can never equal in totality or number the hundreds of billions of stars in God’s cosmos.

* 3. To tell once more his believers that only small specks of dust or foreign matter can lodge in, and damage, the eye and make people cry. And to paraphrase, the “beauty (of Mrs. Arroyo’s administration) is in the eye of the beholder" and there are now too many irritants in the Filipinos' eyes, which have been shedding tons of tears since Gloria Arroyo came to power.

* 2. To use Mrs. Arroyo’s height that is normally the tallness of an average adolescent the dramatization of the contrast between child-like innocence and childish behavior. And finally

* 1. To remind God’s people that at the end of life, mortals become dust and ashes; and especially if cremated, that our ashes can fit in a shoe box as in the case of Madame Imelda or in a match box as in the case of Madame Gloria . . . # # #
