Today is September 21, 2007. Exactly 35 years ago, then President Ferdinand E. Marcos declared Martial Law in the Philippines, giving him absolute power, extending his near end term as President of the Philippines, and removing the threat that democracy was to his dictatorship.{moseasymedia media=http://www.youtube.com/watch/v/QdHRRzTaB1w}(Marcos Explains Martial Law)
President Marcos lifted martial law on January 17, 1981, but only after securing his powers through constitutional ammendments and legislative reforms. In reality,the writ of habeas corpus was still suspended in Western and Central Mindanao.
