T he Asian Journal Foundation, Inc., invites the community, friends of the Philippines and music lovers to the Filipino-American Symphony Orchestra (FASO) summer concert. It is dubbed the “FASO Goes to the MOVIES” and it will be held on July 10, 2010, at 7:00 p.m., at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.

The FASO is the first-and-only symphony orchestra founded and manned by Filipino musicians in the United States. It is slowly becoming the pride and joy of the Filipino-American communities in Southern California.

The FASO will be celebrating another year of music and memories after its inaugural performance on May 17, 2009, at the Saban Theatre. It also performed a Christmas Concert on December 6, 2009, at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. The Pasadena Civic Auditorium is the home to the Filipino-American Symphony Orchestra’s (FASO) concerts and performances in 2010.

T he Asian Journal Foundation was founded by Roger L. Oriel and his wife, Cora M. Oriel, the prime movers of the Asian Journal Publications. The Oriel-led foundation has sponsored other community events such as the Rizal Day on Dec. 30, 2009, at the Filipino-American Community of Los Angeles (FACLA). It also sponsored the Sixth Philippine Presidents’ Day at the Kapistahan Restaurant on March 17, 2010, and the “Bantay Pilipinas” forum on the Filipino presidential candidates two days later at the same venue.

The Asian Journal is now the number-one Filipino community newspaper with the largest-and-widest circulation in Southern California. It prints also separate editions for Northern California, Southern Nevada and the New York-New Jersey Filipino-American markets.

The Asian Journal Foundation is the Oriel Couple’s and the Asian-Journal employees’ special way of sharing with the community their successes in the publishing industry. It is their way of giving back to the readers and advertisers part of their support to the Asian-Journal publications.

T he sounds and sights of film – both American and Filipino and past and present – would once again be revisited in a musical journey by the trend-setting Filipino symphony orchestra in the United States. After the astounding success of its previous shows, the Filipino-American Symphony Orchestra (FASO) celebrates the music, the movies and the memories!

From those unforgettable themes to the timeless love songs to the glorious music of contemporary times; from the resounding kundimans that complemented black-and-white films to the lovely medleys of our colorful (and at once digital) era; from classics to the symphonic interpretation of current pop, the FASO would be playing the soundtrack of our lives. The concert will bring together the wonderful scenes and tunes, the brilliant lines and the collective magic of some of the most-popular and unforgettable movies.
