L EGASPI CITY -- Nacionalista Party senatorial candidate Gwen Pimentel urged the youth to get involved in voter education and efforts to ensure clean, fair, peaceful and credible elections in May.

Gwen Pimentel made the call as schools and universities throughout the country conclude yet another school year and students begin their summer vacation, starting with the traditional observance of Holy Week that starts today, Palm Sunday, March 28, and ends on Easter Sunday, April 4.

“The youth have a stake in the future of the nation. They will be the future leaders. And that is why they should help lay the groundwork for a peaceful and progressive Philippines in the years ahead. They should participate in efforts to educate the people on making wise choices on Election Day,” Gwen Pimentel said.

Gwen Pimentel, the daughter of Senate Minority Leader Aquilino ‘Nene’ Pimentel who is in his last term in the Upper Chamber, is running on a platform that emphasizes children’s and family rights and welfare.

Gwen Pimentel said that while it is only proper that the youth spend the Holy Week on reflection and spiritual renewal, afterwards they can do volunteer work for various organizations conducting voters’ education programs.

“We must instill love of country and encourage involvement in civic affairs among the youth so that they will have sense of empowerment that they can bring about change in our society,” Gwen Pimentel said.

“The May elections are a crucial political exercise. It will choose the next set of leaders who are expected to fight poverty and corruption that serve as fetters to national progress. The youth should help elect those leaders who really have the national interest at heart and are sincere in serving the people,” Gwen Pimentel said.  # # #
