T he talk show, KK!, is accessible through DZRH-AM radio (666 in Metro Manila, other kHz nationwide), TV (Ch. 9 in Metro Manila, other cable TV channels nationwide), and Internet http://dzrh.prepys.com or (http://dzrh.tripod.com. “Horti” comes from the Greek word χορτον, meaning grass. With “culture” affixed to it, it is defined as the “industry and science of plant cultivation including the process of preparing soil for the planting of seeds, tubers, or cuttings.” It usually refers to “gardening on a smaller scale,” as differentiated from agriculture, which refers to the “large-scale cultivation of crops.”
Horticulturists are the professionals in the industry. They include cropping systems engineers, wholesale or retail business managers, propagators and tissue culture specialists, crop inspectors, crop production advisers, extension specialists, plant breeders, research scientists, and teachers.
Horticulture is a sunshine industry which offers great economic opportunities, while greening and protecting the environment, addressing climate change issues, and providing enjoyment to both the professionals and those who benefit from their work and gardens.
Learn how to participate in this industry, or if you are already part of it, hear the latest technologies. Enjoy colorful landscape and plant exhibits. Shop for garden materials, plants, and flowers. Horti 2010, which shall be held on Jan. 29 to Feb. 8, 2010 at the Manila Seedling Bank in Quezon City, offers all these and more. The seminar topics include “Basic gardening made easy,” “Reishi, the ancient secret of traditional medicine,” and, of course, “Money-making opportunities” towards our kaunlaran.
H ear what else you may expect from Horti 2010, including cash prizes for best landscape design and individual plants of participants in the exhibition. Tune in or watch Kalikasan, Kaunlaran!
