My Dear Friend

By Charles Williams

My dear friend:

There is a melancholy I cannot reach deep in the recesses of  your heart
A longing discomfort burned into your being by forces I do not know.

So long ago were you savaged by disquietude, your expectations rejected
Your dreams of  future turned futile, your passion repudiated by consequence.

Through no fault of your own, you were spurned and cast adrift in a malingering sea
Without boat, ore, or  sail.

Were it not for industriousness, you and your tale would be invisible.
But that isn't what happened, my friend.

You've turned your personal sorrows into wondrous tomorrows for unfortunates.
You've learned to loose yourself outside of your self-interest
And fill your days with unending service to others.

A mentor to most amid a host of caring people whom you inspire
Merely by calling their names.

Quote of the Day

Here's a health to the company, and one to my lass.Let's drink and be merry all out of one glass.Let's drink and be merry all grief to refrain,For we may and might never all meet here again.~(trad.)
